Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has, as expected, been appointed as the permanent manager of Manchester United after a stellar start to his time at Old Trafford. Ole is officially at the wheel and United fans will be able to sing their now famous chant on the terraces over the next few years.
The chant which has come synonymous with Solskjaer’s return to the club and can be heard at every home and away game United play, with the fans belting the famous Stone Roses tune out repetitively. For those of you who have been living under a rock, these are the lyrics, set to ‘Waterfall’ by the aforementioned Stone Roses.

But the origins of this song may surprise many United fans. It was in fact sung for former boss Jose Mourinho, in Turin after United had recorded a surprising 2-1 away win in the Champions League group stages. Fans gathered outside the Allianz Stadium and began chanting the name of their former manager gaffer, beginning ‘Jose’s At The Wheel!’.

Enough to make any United fan shudder looking back. Unsurprisingly, with the poor on the pitch performances and Mourinho’s strange comments, the fans were not massively behind him towards the end of his tenure.
The chant never took off amongst the majority of United supporters, until Mourinho left the club and of course, interim man Ole came in.
From the word go the Old Trafford faithful were right behind their returning hero, who famously scored the last-minute winner in the 1999 Champions League final and won United that famous treble. Since that moment he has gone down in Manchester United folklore and he has gone down in the history books of this famous.
Solskjaer’s story is now entering its next chapter and one that few could have predicted just a year ago. His move from Molde was an unexpected one but he has stepped up to the plate and lifted the doom and gloom that surrounded the club under Mourinho. This chant has now become his own and he'll hope to hear it ringing out for years to come.
