Emiliano Sala's father Horacio accused Cardiff City of 'abandoning' his son in a new BBC documentary.

Horacio sadly died in April just weeks after the recording - which is set to air on Monday - and investigates the tragic death of his son who died in a plane crash in January.

Sala, who had just completed a £15million move from Nantes, was being flown to Wales from France when the aircraft he was flying in disappeared.

The wreckage of the two-seater Piper Malibu aircraft was later found on the foot of the English Channel, where Sala's body was recovered.

Horacio told the BBC: 'With all the money that had been paid for him, why was it so hard for them to find something safe?

'Why couldn't they? But they left him alone. They left him like a dog. They left him, they abandoned him.'

Sala's mother Mercedes Taffarel is also part of the documentary and she added: 'I keep thinking he's going to call, but no.'

The body of pilot David Ibbotson has still not been found and the two clubs have been locked in a bitter dispute over the £15million fee, with the French side demanding payment and Cardiff claiming the deal was not completed.

A Cardiff statement, in the BBC documentary read: 'Cardiff City has been working with the appropriate parties to ensure that the Sala family is taken care of - as a matter of principle.
