Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has said he was ‘lucky’ to play in Italy with ‘two professors like Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta.’
The Brazilian is on international duty with his national team and spoke about his career at a press conference.
“Every country has its own way of seeing football,” the Brazilian said.
“I grew up a lot in Italy, one of the best schools for defenders and the defensive phase. At the beginning of my career I was lucky enough to play next to two professors.
“I played with Maldini and then I had the chance to play with Nesta, I played with them for two years and in that time I learned a lot.”
The 36-year-old joined Milan in January 2009 and moved to PSG in summer 2012.
Last summer he left Paris to join Chelsea as a free agent.
“Football is more physical and harder in France.
“PSG have dominated in recent years and this has led us to take more risks.
“In Premier League you always face teams with very fast players up front, the pace is very high.
“After the first two games I left the pitch with a headache for the many aerial duels and the speed with which you play. It’s definitely a different league than the other two I played in.”

“When I was about to sign with Chelsea Lampard sent a message with a photo of us shaking hands as captains in the friendly between Brazil and England. It was a big surprise for me, I didn’t remember that game. I certainly didn’t hesitate to be coached by him." - Thiago Silva 💙
