Thiago Silva admits his career almost over but completely relaxed about future

Thiago Silva has admitted that he is aware his playing career is coming to an end.

The 39-year-old played 90 minutes for Chelsea in their 6-1 demolishing of Middlesbrough in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final to help secure his side's spot at Wembley next month.

He has achieved plenty in his career, turning out for the likes of AC Milan, PSG, and Brazil before joining Chelsea in 2020 on a free transfer from the French club.

While he is still a regular for the Blues under Mauricio Pochettino, having now made nearly 150 appearances for the club in all competitions, his current deal runs out at the end of the season.

While he has commonly been signing new one-year deals at the club, the defender has admitted, via Hayters TV, that he isn't sure how much longer he has left in the game.

'I don't have anything scheduled for later, I'm just looking to have fun,' he said, when asked if he could end up playing back in his native Brazil one day.

'We know it's almost over, but it's not the end yet. So pick the right time. I'm still able to maintain a good performance, my numbers are good, and this gives me peace of mind to continue. Now, the future belongs to God.

'Let's finish well here, these four months and see what happens going forward, but I'm super relaxed about that.'

Chelsea have had an indifferent season under Pochettino, sitting ninth in the Premier League table end enduring a number of difficult results despite spending over £1billion in two years under Todd Boehly.

A cup final against either Liverpool or Fulham, however, will present the opportunity for the Blues to win their first trophy since lifting the Champions League in 2021, and Pochettino's first in England.

Silva, on the back of the game on Tuesday night, insisted the team are progressing despite a slow start under the Argentinian.

'[I am] happier because of the team's performance and now with another final at Wembley,' he said. 'If I'm not mistaken I went there three times. I lost all three. So I think it's time to win. There is still time until that game.

'We work hard to win. On the other side there are also teams that do the same thing. I think that when we play at such a high level, the small detail make the difference. I lost two finals against Liverpool, both on penalties, but they were the best games to watch because the two teams played in a very open and frank way.

'I'm not saying it way bad luck, but it's something that happens in football when you are looking for titles. I think the group has strengthened since because we are together every day and we feel the need to win again. That is the most important thing, and we have that possibility once again.'
