Thiago Silva's transfer to Chelsea is 'almost done' after his final game for Paris Saint-Germain ended in defeat in the Champions League final, according to reports.

Kingsley Coman's second-half header in Lisbon saw Bayern Munich win their sixth European Cup and deprived the Brazilian defender and PSG their first Champions League title.

The centre-back gave an emotional farewell to the Ligue 1 champions after the defeat, following which The Athletic reported that he is now extremely close to joining Chelsea after eight years and seven Ligue 1 titles at PSG.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is looking to overhaul his defence this summer after his side conceded 79 goals across all competitions in 2019/20.

But reports suggest he is now closing in on a surprise move for Thiago Silva, who confirmed his desire to play the next World Cup.

'It was my last game in Paris. I am sad. I apologize to the fans,' Thiago Silva - who turns 36 next month - told French outlet RMC Sport.

'I thank all the fans for their love. I will return to Paris with another role in future but I have to change [clubs].

'I want to play 3-4 years again be part of Brazil team in the Qatar World Cup.'

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel also heaped praise on the Brazilian in his post-match press conference.

The German boss said it was a joy to have managed him and that he will forever remain 'his player'.

'Thiago Silva was my captain, it was a pleasure to have a player of his quality & personality,' Tuchel said.

'Whatever the decision, he will always be my player. He is in my heart & it has been incredible this journey with him.'
