Thiago Silva has chosen to remain silent on the speculation linking him with a return to his boyhood club Fluminense next summer.
The 39-year-old joined Chelsea in 2020 and quickly established himself as an indispensable part of the club's defence, helping them to win the Champions League in 2021.
Despite his advancing age, Silva has remained integral to the plans of several managers at Stamford Bridge including Mauricio Pochettino, who has started the veteran in every league game this term.
However, with his contract expiring at the end of the season the former PSG defender could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. Though, so early into the campaign he was not willing to clear up talk on the matter.
'This relationship has been going on for a long time,' he told Globo Esporte. 'But I prefer to remain silent at this moment, as there has already been some controversy in the recent past.
'I now have a family, I have children. So we have to think about this aspect too. It’s about seeing where things can bring us happiness, to finish this beautiful and successful career that I believe I have achieved.'
Silva reportedly came close to a return to Fluminense, where he made 143 appearances in three years and won the Copa do Brasil, last summer.
The club's president president Mario Bittencourt and former striker Fred reached out to encourage him to sign for the club before retiring.
According to Globo Esporte, the defender regretted his decision to put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension in February.

Comments by some Thiago Silva is a true professional of the game he goes about his job with conviction and in the process it’s obvious to everyone who the leader of the team is. The coach made a very bad decision in naming James as the Captain I understand his reasoning but in retrospect Silva should’ve been the Captain. The old man has been more consistent than the kid besides the maturity patience calmness and leadership has fallen on Silva and what a role he has played. Pochettino needs to try and get Silva to stay and have him continue to be the role model that these kids need because within a year or so the young players can develop into the solid defensive unit they’re predicted to be and have in phase into a mentorship/coaching role. We definitely have some very good talented youngsters in the squad. If integrated properly with the talent we have he has the potential to play until he’s 40.
