Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara’s future is up in the air amid stalled contract talks with the German champions.
And according to reports in Germany, he is keen to join Liverpool as he seeks a new challenge after seven years in Bavaria.
The Spain star has just one year left on his deal at the Allianz Arena.
Negotiations over new terms for the ex-Barcelona playmaker - who moved in 2013 when Pep Guardiola arrived - have been ongoing for some time and looked to be sorted in early May.
It was claimed that it was only a matter of time before he put pen-to-paper and joined the likes of Manuel Neuer and Alphonso Davies in signing fresh terms.
But that deal has remained unsigned, with Thiago recently missing action due to injury and Leon Goretzka playing an increasingly pivotal role in proceedings alongside Joshua Kimmich at the base of midfield.
According so SportBild, Goretzka’s outstanding form is not the reason for Thiago’s decision - although the Germany ace is likely to remain in the deeper position if Kai Havertz arrives in the summer.
Instead, at the age of 29, Thiago is keen for a new experience, having won the league championship in every one of his seven Bundesliga seasons.
It’s claimed that he has his eyes on the Premier League, and has let teammates know he is keen to move to Anfield to work with Jurgen Klopp.
As such, he is holding out and contemplating the possibility of his future being elsewhere.
However, his family are settled in Germany, while Bayern boss Hansi Flick has made him an integral part of his side since taking charge from Niko Kovac last November.
Plus there is Bayern’s board, the likes of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Oliver Kahn, who remain keen for Thiago to stay and continue with the club.
They will be reticent to let him leave any time soon, particularly as they eye Champions League glory in August, and next season.
But given his contract situation and his age, they may be open to cashing in if the money is right - particularly as they look to finance moves for both Manchester City's Leroy Sane and Bayer Leverkusen wunderkind Havertz.

Thiago was once a hot prospect. Remember when he once shunned United for Bayern Munich.
