Premier League legend Thierry Henry has backed Erling Haaland to make history by scoring six goals in one game for Manchester City.

The current record for most goals in one Premier League match is jointly held by Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Jermain Defoe, Dimitar Berbatov and Sergio Aguero - who all scored five goals in one game.

Haaland has scored 18 goals in 14 games league games since joining Man City, and Henry has also backed the Norwegian to reach 50 goals across all competitions.

In an interview with Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video Sport, Henry said: 'He's (Haaland) a new old-school breed of striker.

'What he does, it's a job, a skill, a profession, the only thing he wants is to score goals and he does that to the T.

'I think in his time at Man City he will have a game with six goals, he will. With the amount of chances that Man City does create.'

He went on to add: 'Will he score 50 goals in a season? Not in the league overall but yeah he will.'

The former Arsenal striker, who is seventh in the Premier League's all-time scoring chart with 175 goals, went on to compare Haaland to some of the game's greatest ever strikers.

He said: 'He’s an old-school striker, I would compare him to a Shearer, I would compare him to a (Gary) Lineker, I would compare him to Gerd Müller, I would compare him to Paolo Rossi. I would compare him to Pippo Inzaghi.'

Haaland's explosive start to the season means he has the possibility of breaking a few Premier League records this season.

The £50million summer signing, is already five goals behind the mark set by Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min (23) who jointly claimed last year's Golden Boot.

The 22-year-old needs 14 goals in 24 games to match the Premier League record over a 38-game season set by Salah on 32.

An additional two goals to that would bring him level with Andy Cole and Shearer who both netted 34 times when there was 42 games a season.

Henry most recently part of the coaching team for Belgium as they crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage.
