Thierry Henry sends message to Marcus Rashford after Manchester United win vs Tottenham

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has sent a message to Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, telling the forward that he needs to be cleverer with his finishing after missing two big chances to score against Tottenham.

Erik ten Hag's side put in a commanding performance to beat Spurs 2-0 at Old Trafford. Second-half goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes wrapped up the points after a dominant display against the North London team.

Fernandes nearly had his second and the game's third when he rounded Hugo Lloris in goal for Tottenham. The midfielder passed the ball into an empty net, only for the offside flag to be raised, as he strayed past the Spurs back-line by the barest of margins.

Lloris almost single-handedly kept his side from further humiliation, as the Frenchman pulled off a series of superb saves throughout the match. Rashford felt the brunt of the shot-stopper's performance, as he was denied by the 35-year-old with three of his eight saves during the game.

Although the 24-year-old played well, you could see his frustration with every missed attempt. Henry has now had his say over Rashford's performance, as the former Arsenal striker identified exactly why the United forward failed to score with his first chance of the game.

Speaking on Amazon Prime Video, Henry said: “He could have done better. This is what I say when this ball is coming to you, have a look at the goalkeeper to freeze him. Strikers don’t do that often, the ball is coming to you, you know it, you have to look at the goalkeeper to freeze him and he never looked.

"What you do normally, he just fires low and across. Power is not always the answer.”

Henry then said Rashford was guilty of replicating the same mistake with his second chance of the match.

The Frenchman said: “You open the ball up, just finish it. Place it down here. Why hard? Side foot, goal, see you later. But it was right at him [the goalkeeper]. But great save from Hugo [Lloris].”

Former United defender Patrice Evra interjected at this point, saying: “Not everyone has your brain Henry," to which the Premier League Hall of Fame inductee replied: “I know but you have one, use it.”
