Everton teenager Thierry Small has made history for the club by becoming their youngest ever player to pull on the blue shirt after he was handed his debut in the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday evening.
The 16-year-old left-back was introduced as a substitute by Carlo Ancelotti during the FA Cup fourth round tie at Goodison.
The record was previously held by Jose Baxter, now at Memphis, who made his Everton debut as a substitute against Blackburn Rovers aged 16 years and 191 days in 2008. Small is 15 days younger at 16 years and 176 days.
Everton are keen to reward Small’s progress amid recent interest from Bayern Munich, Juventus and Arsenal, and inclusion in Ancelotti’s plans should underline the potential pathway is there for him to progress.
Small is athletic and powerful with Ancelotti already acknowledging he has the physical attributes to compete with first team players in training.
He has been at Everton since joining from West Brom as an 11-year-old and has been offered a three-year contract to head off interest from rival clubs though has yet to sign.
