This is everything PSG would lose if injury rules Mbappe out against City

Paris Saint Germain are anxiously waiting to see if Kylian Mbappe can recover in time for their Champions League semi-final first leg with Manchester City on Wednesday, after he was forced off with a thigh problem against Metz.

Losing Mbappe would be a huge blow to PSG as they look for their first Champions League title this season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side will feel that they can capitalise on City's less than convincing form in recent weeks and progress to the final in Istanbul, but they will need their top players to be firing.

Mbappe's excellent form

Mbappe has been vital to the French side in Europe this campaign, having scored eight goals in nine appearances and he currently has seven in his last five - exactly the kind of form you want going in to such an important match.

The Frenchman has produced some big moments, scoring a hat-trick against Barcelona in the last 16 and a double against Bayern Munich in the quarter-final first leg.

Mbappe is a player who is made for the big stage, and he spoke of how much he loves these games after his brace against Bayern Munich.

"Like I said in Barcelona, I love this type of game," he said.

"They haven't always gone my way and maybe they won't in the future, but I'm not here to hide. I love this kind of game and being decisive."

His blistering pace is something that can really make the difference on the top stage and a thigh injury will be a worry in this aspect, even if he is fit enough to feature.

Mbappe plays with the confidence, or arguably arrogance, that you need to come out on top in these games. That, paired with his superb athleticism and natural talent, is something that PSG will not be able to replace if he is to miss Wednesday night's match.

Pochettino's response to Mbappe's injury

Pochettino was asked about the youngster's knock and he believes he should be fit.

"We think he's OK and that he'll be ready for Wednesday," said the Argentine

"We reviewed the action, we see the blow. We are not worried about him."
