Thomas Tuchel explains where Bayern Munich have an advantage over Arsenal

Thomas Tuchel believes that Bayern Munich's European experience could hand them a pivotal advantage against Arsenal.

The sides face off with honours even going into their Champions League quarter-final second leg. The Bundesliga giants did lead at the Emirates after goals from Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry before Leandro Trossard secured a 76th-minute equaliser.

Tuchel is hopeful that his team can utilise their European pedigree and know-how to find an edge in a tight affair. The head coach won the Champions League in 2021 while in charge of Chelsea and also guided PSG to the final in 2020. On that occasion, Bayern found success with a significant group of players remaining at the club involved.

Arsenal on the other hand returned to the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17. Tuchel wants his side to play to their strength.

"We have a slight advantage when you look at our experience in this competition," Tuchel said, "But to turn it into a real advantage, you also need a top performance. We’re ready to give it everything we’ve got.

"We’ll need everything again. We’ll need passion and the same tactical discipline as in the first leg. We really want to win this game. It’ll be extremely important that every fan comes to support and push us.

"They play a very attractive brand of football at the highest level. We did well in the first leg, but we’re only halfway through the tie. We need everything again and hope that playing at home will give us the boost we need."

Mikel Arteta recognises the fixture could be pivotal for his young group looking to establish themselves. The Gunners boss outlines exactly what he wants to see from his team away from home.

He said: "A performance that puts us in the Champions League semi-final. All the preparation has been to achieve that. We have earned it. We have earned it for ten months and everything we did last season, to start our journey in the Champions League after so many years. Tomorrow we have an unbelievable opportunity to make it happen."

The Spaniard added: "As you said most of our players haven't experienced a night like this, this is going to be the first one, they are super-motivated, they are prepared they feel confident and it is something that tomorrow we are going to have to show against an opponent that has this experience but we want to make it happen."
