Thomas Tuchel urges England stars to be BRUTALLY honest with each other

Thomas Tuchel wants England’s stars to start digging each other out as the new boss starts implementing a new culture in a bid to end six decades without a trophy.

The German held his first meeting with the squad as boss on Monday night, during which he said they can borrow communication from American sports.

Tuchel, whose tenure starts in a World Cup qualifier against Albania on Friday night, impressed the players in spelling out his vision for success – stemming from a ‘brotherhood’ rather than revolutionising their style of play.

‘The manager was saying that we have only really got 24 training days up until the World Cup so when you put it in perspective it is not a lot,’ debut call-up Dan Burn said.

‘The first meeting was about mentality. It is not going to be where he can really implement a strong way he wants us to play, it is more going to be how we are with each other and interact, pushing each other and not being afraid to speak up if something is not right or something should change.

‘When I was younger I would struggle with that sort of stuff because you didn’t want to ruffle any feathers but I think that is how you learn best about each other.

‘If something is not right or you feel you could push more, I feel that is how we are going have to be if want to have that ultimate aim of winning the World Cup.’

Burn stressed that Tuchel has already projected confidence that ‘everything possible will be done’ to prevail in America next year.

‘He said he’d spoken to players from previous tournaments and from other countries about the difference between going out in early rounds and what happened when they’d won it,’ the Newcastle defender added.

‘A lot of it was about interactions. He spoke about the NBA, that the best teams in the NBA are normally the teams who are high fiving each other, picking each other up, and having a lot of those interactions.’
