Tickets for 2026 World Cup opener start at $370, much higher than Qatar

According to a recent report, tickets for next summer's World Cup opener start at $370, which is much higher than the Qatar World Cup.

More than 4.5 million people reportedly participated in last month's pre-sale lottery since the first World Cup tickets went on sale a fortnight ago, after it was known that the starting price would be between $60 and $6,730  and would be subject to so-called "dynamic pricing". According to the website www.fifacollectanalytics.com, compared with the price of the previous World Cup, the price of this World Cup has increased significantly, with tickets for the opening match, for example, starting at US$370 and reaching US$1,825 for the most expensive.

While the cheapest and most expensive tickets for the opening match of the World Cup in Qatar cost US$55 and US$618, tickets for the final match started at US$2,030 , which is more than ten times as much as the cheapest ticket in 2022, with an average price of US$3,945.

And the vast majority of starting prices are expected to be in the hundreds of dollars, with seating charts allegedly showing that $60 tickets are extremely rare. All of this has sparked protests led by the Football Supporters' Association's Free Lions Fan Ambassador team, whose members travel to major matches to provide local information, help and advice to England fans.

The team declared, "These prices are appalling, and if the cheapest ticket for the final costs $2,000, that's an incredible amount of money to spend on a game you're not sure you'll be able to attend."

"If a fan manages to get tickets in all four categories from the first to the last game, it will cost at least $3,180, which is more than double the cost in Qatar, and when you add in the cost of travelling to the Americas and accommodation, it will be the most expensive World Cup we've ever seen."
