Ex-Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley believes that the departures of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill have caused the Reds' demise.
Ferguson and Gill both left their positions at Old Trafford when United won their 20th top-flight league title. Since then, United have slipped from one disaster to the next.
Last season it looked as if the Reds had reached their lowest ebb when, under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick, they slumped to their worst points tally in Premier League history. Many have claimed that poor recruitment has been the major problem at the club since the Ferguson era, but Cleverley believes the issue is much deeper than that.
Speaking to Sky Bet, the 33-year-old said: "When such a large figurehead like Sir Alex Ferguson, at such a big club like Manchester United, leaves – along with the second biggest figurehead such as David Gill – they left two massive holes and a lot of stability that went with that. You can point fingers at recruitment or lack of leadership, but those two ran the club from top to bottom.
"Although the quality of players is still very high, perhaps they’ve lost a bit of the club’s DNA as well." It is worth noting that both Ferguson and Gill have returned to the club in some capacity, however, neither man holds as senior a position as they used to.
Ferguson became a board member at Old Trafford upon his retirement from managing the club. Meanwhile, Gill, following a stint with FIFA, returned in 2019 as a board member.

Rubbish! Man U’s FIRST PROBLEM was they hired an UNQUALIFIED PERSONNEL at the time- Moyes! He was too timid and afraid to fail, so he FAILED! Mourinho was the MOST SUITABLE at that point and they had prepared for his arrival but unfortunately AF wanted his kin and there stood out the lapses of the glazers being non football oriented. A fiorentino PEREZ would have shook hands with FEGIE for. a job well done and brought in Mourinho who was the next best thing at the time! By the time the glazers called in Mourinho, United were all but finished- and he still won us our last trophies. Same thing happened last year when clueless OLE was axed; rather than bring in a serial winner like CONTE - who was free, glazers went for a retiree in RALPH R. as an interim?! The team simply collapsed afterwards. YOU MUST BRING IN WINNERS AND AT THE CORRECT TIME - without bias or indecision

Man U’s main problem was because they fired David Moyes too early.. anyone who disagrees please go and research Sir Alex’s first season record with Coach Moyes record. It’s somewhat the same . But coach Moyes was fired only 8 months on the job though Sir Alex highly recommended him . Secondly, United should have hired Coach Moyes to under study Sir Alex for at least a year or two seasons before Sir Alex stepped down. Again Sir Alex’s influence on Man U was huge and it wouldn’t have been easy for anyone to step in and perform exactly the same or better. The man managed the club for over 20 years with great success. Right now Man U’s fan base should have a great deal of patience and let’s see what ETH can do because there has been too many changes since Sir Alex left . Sometimes stability brings progress!! PEACE ✌️

talking about the past this is the present and things have changed, players are not dumb anymore like some used to, whereby you'll get humiliated twice in the same go but just one player. Football is changing overtime and it's not getting any easier. so just drop the past crap and focus on the future and rebuilding the team, right now united doesn't want negative energy
