Toni Kroos bows out with ‘deserved’ Champions League title

Toni Kroos has ended his Real Madrid career as a UEFA Champions League winner.

The veteran midfielder signed off from his incredible Los Blancos career with a key role in their 2-0 final win over Borussia Dortmund.

Victory at Wembley brings Kroos’ personal Champions League title tally up to six with five won during his decade in the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid needed the experience of Kroos and their other long standing star names to wrestle back control of the game late on.

Kroos’ corner was headed home by Dani Carvajal, to break the deadlock on the night, and the 34-year-old believes the final result was deserved.

“The decisive thing was that we didn’t concede in the first half. The first half wasn’t good from us. We got into the game and scored the goal” he said at full time.

“We were fully there and the better team won tonight.”

Kroos brings down the curtain on his time in Madrid but his career will stretch on to Euro 2024 this summer after ending his international exile.

The hosts open the tournament against Scotland on June 14 and Kroos’ Champions League exertions mean he will be granted a break before joining up with the squad.
