Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has appeared to confirm that he will sign a new contract at Real Madrid.
The German midfielder's contract is up at the end of the season and he has previously said that 2023 would be the 'appropriate' year to retire.
However, speaking after Real Madrid's win over Chelsea in the Champions League, he hinted that he is set to sign a new deal to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.
As reported by Diario AS, he told reporters: 'Everything is on the right track, but I also respect what the club wants: how and when it communicates.
'There is a good relationship that I have with the club over the years and this issue has already been discussed for a while.'
'There is absolute trust on both sides. The club knew from the beginning that I was not going to do anything stupid.
'Theoretically, I can sign for another team from January 1, but we didn't even start with this nonsense. There is a lot of trust there. I will most likely stay that way for a while.'
Kroos is among a host of veteran players who will see their contracts expire this summer, including Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Nacho.
Real Madrid have been preparing for life without Modric and Kroos over recent transfer windows with the likes of Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni arriving at the club.
Los Blancos are also seen as strong contenders to sign England international Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Kroos revealed in 2021 that he could hang up the boots this year.
He said at the time: 'I believe that the year 2023 is appropriate [to retire], I will be 33 years old.
'I will decide whether I will renew for a season or two, that is still open for discussion, but I am completely sure that I will retire at Real Madrid.'
Kroos was again questioned on the matter in February, in which he said it 'won't take long' for him to make a decision on his future.
As per Goal, he said: 'Yes, I’m still thinking about what to do next season, I say in touch with the club. My experience tells me that it’s best to discuss these things in private, if something officially happens I’m sure you will find out.
'There are many factors involved and I have to be honest about it. It won’t take long, but right now I have not made my decision, but we’re calm because neither the club nor myself will do any silly stuff. I’m really calm about it.'
Kroos joined Real Madrid in 2014 from Bayern Munich and has enjoyed much success at the Santiago Bernabeu.
In that time he has won four Champions League trophies, three LaLiga titles, three Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup on four occasions.
