Toni Kroos already has four Champions League trophies to his name, having won three with Real Madrid and one in 2013 with Bayern Munich.
But the German midfielder could have secured Champions League winners' medals if it were not for Chelsea.
The first time Kroos featured in a Champions League final was in 2012, when Bayern Munich were strong favourites against the Premier League side.
Bayern had become a force again in Europe after making it to the final against Inter in 2010 before being knocked out to the same team the next year.
On May 19, 2012, everything was suggesting a Bayern Munich win with Jupp Heynckes at the helm, which would have been the first time they had lifted the European Cup in 11 years.
Despite having eliminated the almighty Barcelona with Pep Guardiola as coach, no one believed that they could be beaten.
Kroos' assist in the final
Chelsea were the opponents in the final in what was to be a rough game. The minutes went by and Bayern Munich weren't any closer to scoring, but with seven minutes to go Franck Ribery passed to Kroos, who crossed it to the far post for Thomas Muller to finish past Petr Cech.
Everything seemed doomed for Chelsea with only seven minutes on the clock remaining.
In the 88th minute the English side earnt a corner, which was taken by Juan Mata and then headed into the back of the net by Didier Drogba, who sent the game into extra time.
In extra time Bayern attacked and created chances, with Arjen Robben missing a penalty.
A penalty shootout was required to decide the 2012 Champions League winners, with Chelsea being victorious.
Kroos, a youngster back then at 22 years of age, saw two of his older teammates, Ivica Olic and Bastian Schweinsteiger, miss the opportunity to win the Champions League.
Nine years later, Kroos has the opportunity to seek revenge for his former teammates.
"I suffered a lot with that defeat. I was in a bad way, but before winning you have to experience the bad times," said Kroos, as he reflected on the 2012 final.
Real Madrid's No.8 recognises the physical power that Chelsea possess at present and believes that the most important thing is the quality that Los Blancos will need to produce on Wednesday night.
Zidane yet to beat Tuchel
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is unbeaten in his five duels with Zinedine Zidane, which stands the English side in good stead, but the German coach can only boast one victory and four draws against the Frenchman.
Azpilicueta and Real Madrid
Cesar Azpilicueta, the captain and idol of Chelsea, has only managed to beat Real Madrid once in his career, which came almost 12 years ago as Osasuna ran out 2-1 winners in 2009.
Benzema and Giroud
Karim Benzema's absence from the French national team has provoked friction, with the Real Madrid star saying some choice words about Olivier Giroud.
"We cannot confuse a go-kart with a Formula 1 car. I am friends with him, but I am the Formula 1 car," Benzema said about Chelsea's No.18.
Real Madrid head-to-head record with Chelsea
Chelsea boast the better record between the two sides, with the English side winning the Cup Winners' Cup in 1971 and the European Super Cup in 1998, as well as a 1-1 draw in last week's result.
