Tottenham have appealed the red card issued to Heung-Min Son for his tackle on Everton midfielder Andre Gomes on Sunday, according to Sky Sports.
Gomes suffered a fracture-dislocation of his left ankle with the graphic nature of the injury leaving Son in tears.
He is understood to have been offered counselling by Spurs chiefs as he remains upset over the incident as the club launch an official appeal against the decision to show him a red card.
The innocuous tackle as Gomes looked to attack saw him awkwardly fall into Sergie Aurier, leaving him on the turf screaming in agony.
Referee Martin Atkinson initially reached for a yellow card but, once he realized the outcome of the challenge, brandished a red with Son inconsolable as he was led off the pitch.
A Premier League statement explaining the controversial decision said: "The red card for Son was for endangering the safety of a player which happened as a consequence of his initial challenge."
They have now launched an appeal, knowing they could be without Son for upcoming Premier League games against Sheffield United, West Ham and Bournemouth if it is unsuccessful.

I have never hidden my love for this player-Heung-min Son. Today, for the first time I was mad at him for that horrendous tackle on Andre Gomez. But then, just as I was ranting all over in the house, Son began to cry inconsolably. This melted my heart, blew away my momentous anger and grew my respect for him even more. This just go to show that in all you do in life humanity comes first. We may be rivals in business, academics or sport, it should not in any form or manner deprive us of being humanitarians. Son burst into tears because his tackle could possibly have been a career ending one and he's just broken the leg of another human being in the most horrific way. HUMANITY COMES FIRST GET WELL SOON ANDRE GOMEZ💪💪💪 RECOVER SOON SON HEUNG MIN.

I feel so bad for Andre Gomez. He need our prayers and support. Hope he gets well soon. Son for me will deserve any punishment. Many might say it wasn't intentional, but I'll say it was as he was trying to retaliate but little did he expects sure a result. I felt so sorry for Both of them as I saw pain in Gomez and regret in Son

It's not his fault. No human being would ever want to be in that situation or do it with intention. The pure kindness held in his heart is seen in his tears. #respect 🙏😢

Tottenham management have no human feelings. The appeal should never be granted. A team leading 1-0 till 80th minutes and yet Son still tackled like an unexperince player. Intentionally or not intentionally Red card is not even enough yet they blame referee for booking him . he should go for some weeks ban

it would have never happened if the late tackle never arose. Maybe a yellow deemed fair. Sorry for Son but a deterrent for rash tackles is a must. Son would have taken no part in this rescinding of the Red but the club itself. Gomes I hope you make a full speedy recovery.
