Tottenham nearing free transfer for Southampton's Fraser Forster to provide cover for Hugo Lloris

Tottenham are closing on a deal for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The 34-year-old is out of contract next month and has been discussing his future with a number of clubs, but will sign for Tottenham pending a medical.

Tottenham had been focusing on a move for West Brom's Sam Johnstone but have switched sights to 6ft7ins Forster, another homegrown England international, as they look to increase competition for Hugo Lloris.

They want to bring in a number of new signings to keep Antonio Conte happy and are prepared to rival neighbours Arsenal for the signing of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

However, they could face obstacles regarding the finances and relationship between the clubs following last year's ultimately failed talks over Harry Kane.

Tottenham also have to take into account payments for Sergio Reguilon, Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero all being due this summer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to be reunited with the Brazilian after working with him at City.

Regarding his future Jesus told ESPN Brazil: 'On vacation, I decide my future. It's still uncertain.

'I have a contract with City and I have already expressed my desire to the City people and to my agent. I have in my head very clear what I want.'
