Tottenham 'table £37m offer for Luis Diaz' with Conte desperate for signings

Tottenham have tabled an offer worth around £37million (€45m) for Porto forward Luis Diaz, according to reports, although this falls short of his release clause.

Antonio Conte is desperate to strengthen his squad in the winter window, with a new attacker high on his list of targets - and the impressive Diaz is on the shortlist.

However, Spurs' efforts to snap him up for a reasonable fee are continuing to falter, with both the winger and his club in no rush to part ways this season.

Indeed, it has been claimed by O Jogo in Portugal that the latest bid from the north London outfit is below his valuation, and therefore looks set to be rebuffed.

Currently, Porto are 'analysing' the recent proposal, which may rise to a £41.7m (€50m) fee with bonuses, but are said to not be 'inclined' to accept it.

To little surprise, the club are desperate to tie down their talisman until the end of the campaign at least, while they continue to close in on the Primeira Liga title.

It has been reported that the exit clause written into Diaz's contract is worth £67million, and that any potential suitor would need to match it to buy him.

The fact he also has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal also means that Porto are in a strong negotiating position, further adding to Spurs' frustration.

Multiple sources have linked them to Diaz, though. SIC Noticias revealed that they tabled a £37.6m offer, with may again rise with performance-related bonuses.

In a surprise twist, however, Tottenham are said to have given the club just 48 hours to respond to their offer, suggesting they may set their sights on other targets.

Liverpool have also been linked with Diaz, a Colombia international, but it is understood they are not looking to make any signings during this window.

Manchester United reportedly sent scouts to watch him in action last week, with the club potentially mulling over making a sensational approach of their own.

It was claimed Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund also had talent spotters in the stands to take in Diaz's showing in the 3-1 victory over Famalicao on January 23.

Diaz has scored 16 goals and picked up six assists in 28 appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Spurs are moving closer to wrapping up a £20m deal for Wolves winger Adama Traore, after their initial £15m bid was rejected by the Molineux side.

Sportsmail has reported that both clubs are expected to come to an agreement in the near future, with talks ongoing. Boss Conte plans to play him at wing back.
