Tottenham take fire at beaten Marseille with hilarious 'BANG' tweet after early morning firecrackers

Tottenham's Twitter account sent out a hilarious tweet in response to the north London club's dramatic comeback win against Marseille - after the hosts' fans had kept players awake with firecrackers the night before the game.

Spurs' official account sent out a simple tweet, saying 'BANG' followed by a firework emoji following the visitors' victory which ensured they would finish top of the group in the Champions League.

However, the Premier League side did it the hard way, coming from a goal down on a night where every single team in the group at some point could have qualified for the second round.

Pyrotechnics were let off early on Tuesday morning near the hotel where the visitors were staying ahead of the game.

Fireworks were lit at around 1am and 4am on the night of the game as sections of the OM fanbase sought to unsettle their Premier League opponents.

And the continued to ramp up ahead of kick-off, as supporters were filmed firing off a variety of pyrotechnics ahead of the game, in footage widely circulated on social media and the television networks around the world.

But despite the best effort of the French club's followers, Tottenham came from behind to take top spot in the group, after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Clement Lenglet scored in the second half.

Marseille had taken the lead in the dying embers of the first period through ex-Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba, ensuring the visitors would have to come from behind to win their second successive game.

The Velodrome proved to be an equal hostile environment inside, with the French side's ultras in full swing several hours before kick-off, and the game was played to the deafening soundtrack of boos and jeers whenever a visitor touched the ball.

And Tottenham's manager-for-the-day Cristian Stellini offered a similarly tongue in cheek response when asked about the rude awakening by BT, saying: 'Yes, I slept well. We enjoyed the fireworks, but they were a bit short.'

Earlier in the competition, OM supporters caused trouble at Tottenham with police and stewards having to rush towards the away end to quell the issues back in September.

As a result, Marseille were handed a £29,000 fine for the trouble. Tottenham were handed down a £5,000 punishment for supporters' throwing objects at the away end.
