Tottenham transfer analysis: Best signing, departures, prospects, ratings & more

After signing nobody for two windows in a row, Tottenham made Tanguy Ndombele their first arrival since Lucas Moura in January 2018 when he joined in a club-record £65million deal earlier this summer.

A double deadline-day swoop followed with the arrivals of Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso as Daniel Levy finally splashed the cash.

But Mauricio Pochettino will not be entirely satisfied though. Here, We assess how the summer window went for Spurs.

Tottenham's best signing

Ndombele looks the complete package in midfield with a passing range and energy to match his physicality.

Lo Celso looks a bit more of a gamble, and even more pressure will be on him to succeed if Christian Eriksen leaves for a European club in the next few weeks.

Sessegnon may prove to be the shrwedest bit of business in the long run but he underwhelmed in his first Premier League season with Fulham last time out and when he'll emerge into the first-team and in what position remains unclear.

Ndombele is the player Spurs fans will be feeling most confident about right now.

Departures

Spurs have done well to get £20m for Kieran Trippier, who turns 29 in September, and even better to get £10m for flop Vincent Janssen. Squad players Fernando Llorente and Michel Vorm also depart.

Prospects for the new season

Spurs fans will be excited about the first full season in their new stadium and about the three key arrivals. They're rightly third-favourites for the title.

Odd men out at Tottenham

Christian Eriksen is the obvious one, having declared his desire to leave earlier in the summer. He also said he would not join another English club though so that deal is not dead with three weeks left of the European window. Serge Aurier, too, could leave and return to France but that would leave Spurs short at right back.

Summer transfer business rating

The transfer record was broken and the double deadline day swoop is another reason to be cheerful but Spurs failed to land the marquee signing they were hoping for, such as Paulo Dybala or Philippe Coutinho. If Christian Eriksen leaves it would be hard to argue their squad is any better than last season.
