Totti on why Liverpool move helped Salah complete the 'impossible'

Italian football legend Francesco Totti has paid tribute to his former team-mate Mohamed Salah and expressed his delight at how the Egyptian's career has flourished.

Totti and Salah played together for AS Roma during the latter's time the Stadio Olimpico, where he initially moved on loan in 2015, before signing for Liverpool two years later.

One-club man Totti, who scored 250 goals in 619 appearances for the Giallorossi over 18 years, witnessed Salah's development in the Italian capital after his difficult spell at Chelsea, and has expressed his pleasure at seeing his former team-mate progress at Liverpool, where he has already won Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup medals.

Salah scored his 14th goal of the season from the penalty spot in Liverpool's 2-0 win at West Ham on Wednesday night which put the Reds 19 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Kingfut.com report how Totti, now 43 and who only retired from playing in 2017, credits the move to Anfield as being key to how the Egyptian's career has now flourished.

“If Salah would've stayed in Rome it would have been almost impossible for him to win the Champions League.

"But having moved to a new club that has won many tournaments he had more chances.

“I am happy for him, because he is a exceptional guy.

"He made that big substantial leap from Rome to Liverpool that nobody would have expected.

"He is now a player that changes any game at any time."

Salah scored 34 goals in 83 appearances for Roma before his £37.8m move to Liverpool in the summer of 2017 and scored twice against the Italians when the sides met in the following season's Champions League semi-finals.
