Trent Alexander-Arnold faces injury doubt after 25 minutes against Aston Villa

Trent Alexander-Arnold is a doubt for England’s Nations League games against Greece and Republic of Ireland after limping off after 25 minutes of Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday night.

Alexander-Arnold headed straight down the tunnel holding his hamstring as he was replaced by Conor Bradley and manager Arne Slot said: ‘It is always a serious if a player goes out in the first half. He felt something. That is not a good sign.

‘It is always difficult so close after the game to tell you how it is. I would be surprised if we see him playing for the England national team this week but hopefully he can.’

Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah sent Liverpool five points clear of Manchester City who were beaten 2-1 by Brighton earlier on Saturday.

Liverpool have beaten Chelsea, Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen, and drawn at Arsenal during a difficult period.

Liverpool are next in action on November 24, when they host Southampton.

Arne Slot will be eager to have Alexander-Arnold available for the Champions League game at home to Real Madrid on November 27 and the huge Premier League encounter at home to Liverpool on December 1.

A delighted Slot added: ‘It was definitely a big week but every game is, we play so many games against so much strong opponent. Hopefully we will have a lot of these weeks to come.

We are trying to compete for the league,, for the Champions League and for the cups as well. We also know it is a long season as well. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and City are capable of winning so many games in 16 as we did.’

Slot has won 15 of 17 matches since replacing Jurgen Klopp and The Kop sang his name at full-time against Villa.

Unai Emery of Villa complained his side weren’t given a penalty at 1-0 when Conor Bradley pulled Pau Torres’ shirt.

‘In Europe it would have been given,’ he said.
