Truth behind Pogba's controversial tweet after Mourinho sacked

Paul Pogba's Instagram post 'slamming Jose Mourinho' was actually a misunderstanding.

Less than 20 minutes after the Portuguese boss was shown the door, the controversial French midfielder posted on to his twitter and Instagram.

Next to a picture of the Frenchman smirking were the words: "Caption this."

It was deleted minutes later, but not before the likes of Gary Neville and Piers Morgan savaged the French midfielder.

Pundit Gary Neville replied with 'Caption This' before replying with five words of his own.

He wrote: "You do one as well!".

Morgan called him a: "Smug, toxic, under-performing, childish £100 million d*** head uses worst possible moment to be a smart-arse."

But Pogba's sponsors Adidas have now cleared up the mess.

A representative of the sports firm told a journalist: "Pogba's social media posts were a scheduled event, part of a marketing campaign.    

"Immediately taken down once it became apparent that it could be misconstrued as disrespectful to Manchester United and José Mourinho."

Pogba had already been slammed by Manchester United fans after making a trip to Paris to take part in an Adidas event yesterday.

Pogba set tongues wagging after appearing alongside former Juventus team-mate Paulo Dybala on Monday night.

The midfielder was left on the bench as the Red Devils were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool on Sunday - Mourinho's last game in charge.

Pogba and Mourinho have had a fractured relationship over the past 12 months - which is why the likes of Morgan and Neville believed the tweet to be genuine.
