Tuchel praises Dembele amid London meeting: I'm very fortunate to have coached him

Ousmane Dembele looks set to leave Barcelona as the two parties are unable to find an agreement over a contract extension, and Chelsea are among the front-runners, boosted by the fact that Thomas Tuchel has previously coached him at Borussia Dortmund.

His agent, Moussa Sissoko, is reportedly in London for talks with the West London outfit, and the German coach has lavished praise on the French winger, further fuelling the speculation.

"He's a very good player, and I am very fortunate to have trained him in my time at Dortmund. It was only one year, it should have been longer, but I needed to leave and he decided to leave," the German said.

"We are not in close contact, we have met here and there because of his duties for the French national team when I was in Paris. We exchanged some messages. I have absolutely no idea why he is in this situation, I don't know the details, so it's better not to talk."

Dembele's contract with the Catalans expires in the summer, making him one of the most sought after free agents in world football.

His time at Barcelona has been tarnished by injuries, but his discipline and professionalism has always faced scrutiny.

However, the chance to work under a coach who helped him become one of the biggest prospects in the game could be a turning point for the winger's topsy-turvy career.
