According to Argentine media Tyc, Argentine international defender Senesi returned home following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final and received a warm welcome from a large crowd of supporters.
Senesi arrived in his hometown of Concordia after the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was greeted by thousands of fans during a welcoming ceremony. The center-back reflected on Argentina's near-miss opportunity late in the final against Spain.
"When I saw Giuliano cutting in from the wing, my first instinct was to rush forward, but Cubarsí made an incredible recovery tackle behind me. I was caught between two defenders, and that moment will stay with me forever because I know we were just centimeters away—but those centimeters cost us the match," Senesi explained.
Argentina came close to forcing a penalty shootout, but Spain took the lead through Ferran Torres early in the second half of extra time. In the final stages, Spain nearly conceded an equalizer to Scaloni's side.
Senesi earned his late selection to the World Cup squad after Balerdi suffered an injury. During the homecoming ceremony in front of town hall, he received a special honor. "Of course, I'm thrilled everyone is here. I never imagined experiencing something like this—coming home to such a wonderful reception is incredible. I'm truly grateful to everyone," he said.
On the initiative of city councilor Celeste Fuscado, Senesi was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen"—described as "the highest civic honor under Decree No. 38537." Fuscado remarked: "I had the privilege of knowing Senesi before he became famous. He is someone who embodies exceptional qualities: humility, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility."
