Ajax could ask to be reimbursed €12m for the decisions made by Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi during their Champions League match against Chelsea.
During a clash between the Blues and the Dutch giants in November last year, Rocchi sparked a heated debate after sending off both Daley Blind and Joel Veltman in the second half of the match ending in a 4-4 draw.
UEFA would, according to De Telegraaf, informally admit that the Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi made an error that cost Ajax during the match in London.
Ajax were eventually eliminated from the lucrative tournament and are, according to the newspaper, in a position to appeal against the refereeing decisions that cost them a possible qualification to the last 16.
But the club’s CEO Edwin van der Sar has revealed that Ajax don’t have any plans of taking further action against European association.
“Taking legal action with UEFA would be useless and hopeless,” the former Juventus goalkeeper said, according to the report.
Chelsea are currently preparing to face Bayern Munich in the first round of the knockout stages, whilst Ajax are up against Getafe in the Europa League.
