More than two-thirds of Premier League fans believe the video assistant referee has made the game less enjoyable, says a YouGov survey.
VAR has been at the centre of a number of controversial decisions since it was introduced to the league this season.
Six out of 10 of those surveyed felt the system was working badly.
"Almost every manager's post-match interview featuring grumbles about [VAR] decisions," said lead data researcher Matt Smith.
A poll last month of 1,396 adults who regularly watch Premier League football found that 67% felt matches were now less enjoyable since the introduction of VAR.
Neil Swarbrick, who oversees the system for Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), rated VAR at seven out of 10 earlier this season during an interview with BBC Sport.
Only 15% of those surveyed wanted the system to be scrapped altogether with 74% saying it should be kept, but modified.
Of those surveyed, 81% felt that supporters should see the incident under review at the same time as the officials, while 80% felt referees should be encouraged to use the pitchside monitors.
Currently the advice to Premier League officials is to use these sparingly and trust in the guidance of the VAR, with a view to making a quicker decision.
Smith added: "Despite much social media hysteria, our research shows that a large majority of those watching the games actually want to see it reformed over a complete removal.
"In addition, many of the changes discussed amongst pundits and commentators poll well, with support for time limits on decisions and encouragement for more pitchside screen use.
"One of the major criticisms of the current system is that the spectator in the stadium is left in the dark while decisions are made and there is strong support for being able to see footage as it's being shown to VAR refs, as well as hearing the conversation the referees and the video assistant referees are having."

Premier league referees are useless and they decide matches using VAR

you're right about that too. I just hope the people at FIFA and IFAB grow some brain cells and come up with some genius methods to use VAR properly in football. Almost everyone in the game called for the introduction of this tech a year or two before it was. Now most of them are already calling for it's removal due to concerns over the way it's implemented in some games... The efficiency of this potentially revolutionary piece of precious technology lies in the hands of the sport's major governing bodies.
Exactly, with they sit on their hands and think with their arse, they earlier disallowed referees from using pitchside monitors because "it wastes time and destroys the game" according to them, what did we get? Referees became as confused as the fans, they became a joke, the decision taken out of their hands... now they returned it but there's still an unwillingness to use it, they really need to come together and talk, but if these people are not even former players, then I wouldn't get my hopes high on them, they'll probably wait for a complain before they try to fix anything

Wow, that's an interesting point... English referees are too inconsistent, u have Chris Kavanaugh who wouldn't give a foul until someone dies and then Mike Dean who would give u a red if u breathe on an opponent, then there's Michael Oliver who spends most of the match just talking, a very strict Stuart Artwell, very calm Martin Atkinson and the biggest and best one is Anthony Taylor, Jeff Bezos in black, but he can't referee every game... so yeah, you're right, English refereeing is a big ball of mess and VAR can really be good if well used, far from the shambles we have right now!
English refs need a few more years of training on how to use VAR coz they're simply not up to the task as yet...

Tbh it is fun in a way... Fans think there team scored and then it's amusing to see how their faces suddenly change if it's disallowed. It kills the flow of the game obviously but it's here to cut out mistakes... It's exciting for me to watch a VAR decision being under review and when the decision comes out even though it's boring for most.... remember VAR is not the flop, it's the English referees who (mis)use them that are the real culprits of every VAR farce........ VAR was used very well at the 2018 world cup and there were no English referees... Coincidence? NO!!!

players nolonger do real celebrations due to fear VAR might councel the goal and another thing I think these guys do bet matches, a times they don't use VAR wen it's really needed, and a times they use it unnecessarily, like at spurs vs man city, the refeere together with the VAR really destroyed the fun for the match and really it will kill the love and fun of the games mo so in epl, VAR is poorly used, wake up FA

In my opinion, VAR is terrible for football because whenever a goal is scored, the first reaction of VAR is to try to disallow it!... we want more goals in football and then VAR is here to cancel the few we've been celebrating

Why? even though i am man city fan i am happy.
How tf are u happy with VAR. VAR is taking the enjoyable moments away from us and making the fans and players to wait for discussion to be made by VAR which takes 2min or more

Football so boring nowadays with VAR, when someone score I can’t even celebrate unless it’s a long shot goal. U just sit there until the kick off then start to celebrate.
