Edwin Van Der Sar has revealed how his former team-mate Zinedine Zidane would arrive at Juventus training in a Fiat, while the rest of the squad all drove in Ferraris.

Van Der Sar, now the CEO of Dutch giants Ajax, went on to say Zidane was 'totally different' to the rest of the team as he would wear jeans and a t-shirt as apposed to Dolce & Gabbana or Versace, which became common among team-mates.

The ex-Manchester United goalkeeper โ€“ who played with Zidane for two years between 1999-2001 in Turin โ€“ said he found it hard to talk to the 1998 World Cup winner as he wasn't very 'talkative'.

He told Ziggo Sport that he only expressed himself in French or Italian as his English was poor, but insisted that it didn't stop him from being a regular on the team-sheet.

Van Der Sar said: 'He was not very talkative. In fact, it was difficult to communicate with him, as he did not speak English very well and only expressed himself in French or Italian.

'But the way he took the ball, threw it into the air and how he always got to play... I remember that one day he came to training in a Fiat, wearing jeans, a white Levi shirt and white adidas shoes.

'That was totally different from what you saw from the other players who arrived in Ferraris and wore Dolce & Gabbana or Versace.'

Zidane enjoyed an illustrious career playing for European giants Juventus and Real Madrid before retiring back in 2006.

Zidane was also the undoubted star of the French side that swept to victory in the 1998 World Cup, scoring twice in the final against a much-fancied Brazil team.

But, for what Van Der Sar calls a quiet man, Zidane had his moments, with his most notable being his famous headbutt on Italy's Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final.

Zidane was shown a straight red in the 110th minute of the final in Germany, which Italy ended up winning on penalties.

The shocking incident ended the legendary Frenchman's international career, and he has since stated that he does 'not feel proud' about that moment.
