Vardy insists retiring from England duty is the reason for his brilliant form

Jamie Vardy says his decision to retire from international football in 2018 is the reason behind his fine form for Leicester City.

Vardy called time on his England career after World Cup 2018 after citing a desire to spend more time with his family.

Since then, the striker's form has blossomed for Leicester and he's currently the Premier League's leading scorer this term on 16 goals.

'I retired because I needed to rest up, I needed to keep the legs fresh,' he told the Amazon's Back of the Net show. 'I had seven weeks off to prepare for the new season and the rigours it brings in pre-season, which is the worst part ever.

'That is one thing I can happily say I don't forward to and I hate the gym. The most I have spent in the gym at Leicester is walking around saying: 'well done lads, get those weights lifted.'

Vardy's form has helped to fire Leicester into second place in the Premier League table and eight points behind leaders Liverpool.

The club's form has sparked memories of their title-winning success back in 2015 and Vardy took the time to reflect on that achievement.
