Brighton have confirmed the departure of full-back Joel Veltman, with the Dutchman departing as a free agent after six years at the American Express Stadium.

Veltman arrived from Ajax in 2020 and made 191 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions, including 165 in the Premier League.

He helped Brighton qualify for European football for the first time in their history in 2022-23, under Roberto De Zerbi, and they repeated the trick with Fabian Hurzeler at the helm last campaign.

Chairman Tony Bloom said of Veltman: "Joel has been a terrific player during his six years with us.

"We knew we'd pulled off a coup to sign him, and he has delivered on and off the pitch as we had hoped he would.

"He has been an important player in our upward trajectory during his time with us, including playing a number of games in the season we qualified for Europe for the first time."

Earlier on Thursday, Brighton confirmed the arrival of Austria defender Michael Svoboda from Venezia, having activated his €5m (£4.3m) release clause.

Brighton have already signed Pascal Struijk from Leeds for £20m, while Luka Vuskovic is also expected to complete a £50m move from Tottenham in the coming days.
