Rob Green is set to undergo a medical on Wednesday afternoon ahead of his proposed move to Chelsea.
The 38-year-old has already agreed personal terms and will become the Blues latest addition to the squad where he will provide competition as the third-choice goalkeeper.
Green was released by Huddersfield at the end of last season and is expected to sign a short-term contract at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea bid to boost their homegrown quota.
Chelsea needed to improve the number of homegrown players in the squad after allowing Jamal Blackman to join Leeds on loan.
Green brings with him a wealth of experience, having played 658 games at both Premier League and Championship level.
Willy Caballero is the second choice and Chelsea are discussing candidates for their No 1 role as they determine whether to sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.
The Blues have been linked with moves Stoke City's Jack Butland, who is expected to leave following their relegation to the Championship, and Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel. Pepe Reina has also been discussed, but has recently joined AC Milan.
Los Blancos are pushing for a £50million deal for the Belgian shot-stopper, who won the Golden Glove at the recent World Cup in Russia, but are yet to agree terms with their Premier League counterparts.

The Chelsea board are joking with the future of this club.Making frustrating signings right from Bakayoko to Drinkwater and now one unknown 38 year old who is just looking for pension benefits.I wonder when the Chelsea board will wake up and make mature signings to grow the club.
