Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres would supposedly be keen on a sensational reunion with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
Gyokeres, 26, established himself as one of the finest centre-forwards in Europe while playing under the new United head coach in Portugal. Last year, the Swede contributed 43 goals and 15 assists in all competitions, as Sporting roared their way to the Primeira Liga title.
Now Amorim has left the Jose Alvalade Stadium, the former Coventry City forward has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford. It's understood Gyokeres has a release clause of around £83million, but Sporting may consider bids of nearer the £66m mark, although that depends on how intense the battle for his services becomes. The likes of rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are admirers too.
While Sporting may have made their demands clear, Gyokeres has so far remained neutral when asked about a possible reunion with the 39-year-old new United boss. However, reports from Italy understand Gyokeres would be more than happy to work with Amorim again and return to England.
Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, while speaking on behalf of MyBettingSites.co.uk, said: "Amorim is a really good and smart manager. The first thing for a smart coach is to closely see the players he has in the squad, so he will use the coming months for that.
"The players will get a chance to show what they can. But of course, he will do everything to get Gyokeres.
"He will be the striker next summer and everybody will try to get him. Napoli tried to get him before they signed Lukaku but the price is higher now.
"I think Gyokeres could go to Manchester United, because he knows the manager and it seems like the perfect wedding in some way. There is no deal right now, but both Amorim and Gyokeres would be very happy to work together again.”
United currently have Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as their centre-forward options, while Marcus Rashford led the line in Amorim's first match against Ipswich Town, scoring in the 1-1 draw. Hojlund impressed during Amorim's first match at Old Trafford, contributing a brace and a determined assist in the 3-2 home victory over Norwegian side FK Bodo/Glimt – but Swedish superstar Gyokeres would certainly be a step up in quality.
After the match, Danish international Hojlund made it clear that he thinks he is thriving in Amorim's new system. In a post-match interview, he said: "I think the new system and new ideas are suiting my style of play.
"I still try to do the same, but obviously we play a different sort of football and system now. I've played this sort of football, I don't say it is the same, but a 3-4-3, I used to play that at Atlanta a little bit the same.
"I just try to do my job every time I step on the pitch. I think I showed last season, with being top scorer for the team, that I can score goals. I'm still very young, but obviously I would like to take the responsibility and that's why I also took the No. 9 shirt this year, because I think I want to take it to the next level and the next step.
"But yeah, I still have a lot to grow. I'm still not the finished article. I'm only 21. I think I've improved on sort of holding and getting my back to the goal play, and I think it comes with age. Last year I had to learn the Premier League and these sorts of things. I think I get better with these sort of things every time I step foot on the pitch.”

I will advise Gyokeres to be careful, he must analyse the situation very well before he accepts to join Amorim at United. Over the years we've watch every manager of Man U fail with the players of their choice. If I'm Gyokeres, I would prefer Arsenal or Chelsea move because at Old Trafford there is a lot of cloud and haze.
And you are not him!!!
