Aston Villa continued their preparations for their first season back in the Premier League with a thumping 5-1 win over Walsall at the Bescot Stadium.

Club record signing Wesley Moraes scored twice in the first half, while fellow newboy Jota also helped himself to a brace before Jack Grealish rounded off the scoring.

The newly-promoted Premier League side have been busy strengthening their squad in the transfer window with nine new signings arriving at Villa Park.

New signing Jota, who joined from Birmingham City earlier this summer, opened the scoring with a smart finish following a through ball from Frederic Guilbert.

The Spaniard then fed club record signing Wesley Moraes, who dispatched a clinical finish into the bottom left hand corner to make it 2-0.

The two new signings both struck again before the interval, either side of a Stuart Sinclair strike to head into the half-time break in cruise control.

In the second period Villa continued to control proceedings. Andre Green rattled the crossbar before Grealish made it 5-1 when he slotted into the bottom right-hand corner.

On the 70 minute mark Villa boss Dean Smith changed his entire outfield starting line-up and those changes ensured a low-key end to the game as they ran out comfortable winners.
