Walsall FC's fine list less harsh than Chelsea's with £10 punishment for mobiles

Laying down the law is both standard and essential to ensure discipline at any football club, regardless of what level you are operating at.

Earlier this week, an image circulated of the internal player fines list at Chelsea, which left many taken aback at the hefty punishments awaiting those who fail to adhere to Frank Lampard’s code of conduct.

Among the penalties was a £20,000 fine for being late training, while there was a £500 fine for EVERY MINUTE a squad member misses a team meeting.

And while this is considered small change to the millionaire footballers at Stamford Bridge, lower down the footballing spectrum the pockets are not so deep.

Fortunately, for players of Walsall, the fines are not on the same scale as those in west London.

The League Two side have imposed a £50 fine for being late to a team meeting or pre-match meal and you will have to cough up £5 for not washing out your bottle or leaving your dirty kit turned inside out.

The picture showing the fines was posted on Twitter by former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour, who joked he would much rather Walsall’s version than the one shown at Chelsea.

“After Franks new fines at Chelsea this more at my street,” he wrote.

If you arrive late for a team meeting that will set back the respective player £5, and if your phone rings loud inside the training ground that costs the Saddlers squad a £10.

On reflection, Walsall players will be counting their lucky stars when they compare their fine list in comparison to those of Chelsea – even for the fourth tier of English football they are pretty fair – thus they can’t have too many complaints.
