England fans were left shocked as Harry Maguire went on a mazy run down the left wing during England's draw against the USA on Friday.

There were doubts over the defender's place in the team going into the tournament, but he was backed by manager Gareth Southgate and has started both of the Three Lions' games so far.

In the 11th minute of Friday's game, the 29-year-old stunned fans by taking on two USA players and getting a cross into the area, which was eventually cleared.

England struggled to break down their opponents throughout and Maguire's run created one of the side's best chances of the match.

He also won several headers in his own box as the Three Lions were succumbed to heavy pressure from the Americans.

Gregg Berhalter's side defended well throughout, and despite England having more possession they found chances hard to come by.

On fan on Twitter joked of Maguire's run: 'Had Maguire actually created a goal off of that run they should've tossed the US out of the tournament on principle.'

Another added: 'If Harry Maguire had finished off that run we'd have to fold the entire country.'

A third said: 'Maguire turned into Neymar for a second that was a mad run.'

England have now almost qualified for the knock-out round despite the result, with the side needing to avoid a four-goal defeat to Wales on Tuesday to secure a place in the next round.

There was plenty of frustration in the performance against the US, however - a complete contrast to the win over Iran.
