Watford boosted their hopes of reaching the Championship play-offs, while denting those of Wrexham, with a 3-1 win at Vicarage Road.
Wrexham endured a poor first half, and though Max Cleworth gave them a lifeline in the second half, Edoardo Bove made sure of the three points late on for Watford.
Ed Still's side made a bright start, with Giorgi Chakvetadze curling an early effort off the crossbar, and they found their breakthrough 18 minutes in.
Chakvetadze picked out Marc Bola with a lovely backheel, and the defender's drive deflected off Cleworth and past the helpless Arthur Okonkwo.
And they doubled their lead with a stunning goal 20 minutes later as Edo Kayembe bent his effort from the edge of the 18-yard box past Okonkwo.
Wrexham made up for a lacklustre first half when Cleworth nodded Oliver Rathbone's corner into the net just four minutes after the break.
They had chances for an equaliser, but failed to take them, while Watford got their third in the 94th minute; after Bola rattled the crossbar, Bove was on hand to prod it into the empty net for his first Watford goal.
Data Debrief: Wrexham feel Hornets' sting
It was an underwhelming display for Wrexham, who still hold a three-point cushion over seventh, and it means they will now be looking over their shoulders.
Watford were on top from the get-go, managing 13 shots worth 2.03 expected goals (xG), while Wrexham managed just 0.35 from eight attempts, scoring with their only one on target.
For Watford, it was a second win in their last six home games (D1 L3), keeping them firmly in the fight for the top six, which they trail by just five points.
