Premier League footballer Troy Deeney has been fined £865 for driving a Mercedes Benz with 'dangerously tinted windows.

The Watford striker, 31, was pulled over by police as he drove along London's North Circular road during the day on May 9.

Officers tested the deeply tinted windows, with results revealing they were below the legal limit for light penetration.

He was told they posed a risk to pedestrians and was ordered not drive the vehicle at night.

Prosecuting, James Tucker told Wimbledon Magistrates' Court: 'The officer noticed the windows were very deeply tinted.'

'The officer classed it as a dangerous condition for pedestrians. He was told not to drive at night.'

Deeney pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a car in a dangerous condition.

His lawyer Mark Haslam told the court in mitigation the footballer made the 'necessary changes within a short period of time' and the car, which had been bought with the windows already tinted, was now legally compliant.

Details of the model of Mercedes were not given in court, but he was fined £650, ordered to pay £150 in costs and was given a surcharge of £65.

He attended the hearing but did not stay until the end, with a spokesman saying he had to rush off to a medical appointment.

It is not Deeney's first run-in with the law. He was jailed for 10 months in 2012 over his involvement in a savage night club attack on a group of students.

CCTV captured the footballer kicking one victim in the head during a night out.

The then-23-year-old was sentenced alongside his younger brother Ellis Deeney and two other men.

Deeney, who pleaded guilty to affray at an earlier hearing, was arrested shortly after the fracas, which left one man with a broken jaw and another requiring 20 stitches to a mouth wound.

In July 2016 he was slammed by fans, who described him as 'what's wrong with football', after bragging about his new £180,000 Lamborghini.

He posted on his birthday: 'It's my birthday so why not treat myself I think I deserve.'

One fan commented at the time: 'Exactly what's wrong with football these days! Absolute bang average player driving around in a motor like that!'

Another fan raged: 'Only superstars should be able to drive those!
