Watford will launch an investigation into the social media activity of forward Adalberto Penaranda.

The 23-year-old star was allegedly involved with shock footage recorded at a sex party which has been leaked online.

The Championship club have confirmed they will look into the matter ahead of Penaranda's planned return for pre-season training.

The footage, which has recently surfaced online, appears to show Penaranda at the sex party.

The video was reportedly uploaded to the 'close friends' section of his Instagram story, a feature which allows the user to control who can view their posts. But the 27-second clip appears to have since been leaked by a friend of the player.

A statement from the club read: 'Watford FC confirm they are currently investigating the matter but will make no comment at this time.'

The young Venezuelan joined Watford in 2016 from Udinese for a fee of around £9.5million but has spent the last four campaigns on loan with several clubs due to work permit issues.

He had been one of the most-wanted teenagers to emerge from South America and was signed by the Pozzo family for Granada, in Spain, initially. Penaranda then moved to Watford and was shipped out on loan again.

Real Madrid were reportedly interested in the star after being impressed by his performances with Malaga.

A work permit granted in November 2018 saw Penaranda cleared for Premier League action, but he has since spent last season on a short-term stint with Belgian club KAS Eupen.

Penaranda has made just three competitive appearances for Watford, two in the FA Cup and the other coming in the EFL Cup.

The attacker is expected to return to the Hornets' training ground along with his team-mates later this month as Watford gear up to battle for an immediate top flight return.
