Watford star's £25million transfer on verge of collapse over agents' spat

Watford star Yaser Asprilla has seen his hopes of a summer move put into severe doubt amid an ongoing agent spat.

The Colombian has emerged as one of the most exciting stars in the Championship over recent seasons. And he has been expected to leave Vicarage Road this summer.

French side Rennes offered £25million for Asprilla over the weekend, a figure, plus add-ons, that was accepted by the Hornets. But Rennes duly refused to meet Asprilla’s representatives' demands as they negotiated personal terms with the player.

That opened the door to newly-promoted Leicester, who are also interested in signing him upon their return to the Premier League.

However, a fresh problem has now surfaced, with it now being unclear over who actually represents the 20-year-old. Asprilla has previously been spotted with Jhonathan Herrera of JHSeven Sports Company, and Giancarlo Uda.

But, Synerjoy Soccer, another agency, claim they have exclusive rights to negotiate for Asprilla. An email written by said Alejandro Blanco Toro, CEO of Synerjoy, and shared by the Watford Observer said: “It is important to highlight that we are currently involved in a criminal dispute with a complaint filed in Spain against Jhonatan Herrera and Giancarlo Uda,”

“Should this not be resolved, it could lead to complications for the player and his family in Colombia, as there is a contract in force until November 2026 with the player and his parents.”

A further tweet read: “The current contract of the footballer #YaserAsprilla with @SynerjoyS. We are the only agency that has the representation rights with the athlete of @WatfordFC.”

Meanwhile, Synerjoy also shared an image of a contract allegedly from 2021 apparently signed by Asprilla, his father Macario Asprilla Rivas, his mother Marlyn Asprilla Martinez, and Blanco Toro on behalf of Synerjoy.

Meanwhile, Watford sporting director Gianluca Nani has insisted that his side are not obliged to sell their star winger. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “We would like to keep him. At the moment he is our player. We are happy to keep him.

“At the same time, if a top club comes and makes the player happy and the club happy, we can sit down and consider. But we don’t need to sell him. We will sell him if we believe there can be a really good step forward for the boy and for the club.”

Asprilla scored six goals and notched seven assists in the Championship last season. He has just a year remaining on his contract at Vicarage Road.
