Ollie Watkins suffered a nasty injury while on England duty on Thursday night as he missed a golden opportunity to make it 4-0 to the Three Lions against Wales.
Watkins, who was deputising for usual captain Harry Kane in the striker's position, found himself on the scoresheet in the opening minutes of the game when he tapped in from close range.
It was a rampant first half showing from Thomas Tuchel's side, who were looking to build one their impressive 5-0 win in Serbia in their World Cup qualifying campaign last time out.
Morgan Rogers had given the home side the lead against their rivals, before Watkins poked home and Arsenal's Bukayo Saka added a fine third after cutting in from the right to finish high with his left foot.
But it was an end-of-the-half to forget for Aston Villa striker Watkins, who missed the chance to score from just yards out as he spooned a low cross wide of the goal.
And the pain didn't stop there. In his follow through, Watkins slid into the post and took a whack to the leg, withering in pain as concerned team-mates called for medical attention.
Having initially rued the miss, Watkins' team-mates seemed to eventually realise the potential severity of the situation and ran over to check on him and call for help.
As doctors rushed onto the field, broadcaster ITV opted not to immediately show a replay of the incident.
They instead showed a zoomed out shot of Watkins receiving treatment before broadcasting replays of the goals to the viewers.
After a few minutes on the floor, Watkins made it to his feet and gingerly left the field of play before returning to finish the half, receiving a round of applause from a relieved Wembley.
He was substituted at the half-time break, however, with former Manchester United man Marcus Rashford replacing him. Rashford moved to the left wing, with Anthony Gordon playing up front.
