Wayne Rooney questions Man City's 'strange' title-winning triumph against QPR in 2012

Wayne Rooney has questioned why Manchester City's Premier League title-winning triumph over QPR has never been properly dissected, with the Man United legend labelling it as 'strange'.

City famously won their first ever Premier League title under the most dramatic of circumstances, with Roberto Mancini's men scoring twice in stoppage time to record an incredible 3-2 comeback win and pip local rivals Man United to top spot on goal difference.

The game is remembered for Sergio Aguero's last-gasp winner, with the Argentine smashing the ball past Paddy Kenny in QPR's net to send the Etihad crowd into raptures.

But while the game – and Aguero's goal – is celebrated as one of the best in the Premier League's history, Rooney questioned the performances of the QPR players in the build up to City's winner.

'Paddy Kenny should have done better for a couple of the goals,' Rooney told The Sun.

'City get the second goal and QPR kick it straight back to them and that's never been questioned - I find that strange.

'Djibril Cisse celebrating after the game with the City players, but yeah listen it's a historic moment in the Premier League so I'm sure that - if you are not involved as a Manchester United player, that's probably one of the greatest moments in the league.'

Rooney and a host of other Premier League legends – including Ian Wright and Vincent Kompany – were asked about Aguero's goal as City celebrated its 10th anniversary, with it being labelled as 'remarkable' and 'one of the greatest goals in Premier League history'.

City unveiled a statue of Aguero's celebration outside the Etihad last week, with the Argentine humbled by the gesture.

'Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself 10 years ago is very moving,' said Aguero.

'In those 10 years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the club become one of the most important in the world.

'I am very grateful to the club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special.'
