It was a rare moment, when the talk was purely about football, that Gareth Southgate highlighted the steps England must climb in order to conquer Europe.
'Every player, except Jadon Sancho in Germany, plays in the hardest league in the world and are used to playing against the likes of Pogba or Kante - or playing with them,' the Liverpool midfielder argued.
'As you get to later rounds of a competition you come up against the likes of those names and things get harder. You have to put in your best performances to overcome those challenges but the boys deal with at club level against top, top players - they had it in the World Cup, too.
'We have the ability to beat anyone on our day. We also have the ability to stop them beating us. I'm not too worried about the names we will come up against. We are going to have to worry about that when they are put in front of us - and only then.'

You don't really think a midfielder is just supposed to score goals do you? Rice, Winks and Henderson could play his CM position better. Ox has just scored 3 goals against Genk in the CL, just Genk. Mount has 4 goals and 1 assist in the PL while Ox has nothing. Ox came back into training last feb from that big injury and has been mediocre ever since. He will stay on the bench for England unless they play easy games. Scoring against Genk isn't really a great feat is it? Mount is younger and way more talented.
