West Ham look to be eyeing a late swoop for Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, according to reports stemming from the Dutch media.
Tagliafico’s Ajax stint
The defender linked up with Ajax in 2018, after departing his home country for Europe for the 2nd time.
The 28-year-old has since established himself an integral member of the Dutch outfit’s backline, and played a key role in both their recent Eredivisie title success, and the Champions League run which saw Ajax reach the semi-finals in 2019.
All told, Tagliafico has notched 141 appearances in all competitions for the capital giants, across which he has scored 13 and assisted 19.
West Ham eye Tagliafico
Leeds United were said to have been working on a move for the full-back earlier this year.
However, the Whites have since signed Junior Firpo at left-back and, as mentioned above, another Premier League side appear to be eyeing the Argentine now.
As per Dutch outfit De Telegraaf, West Ham and Ajax have reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of Tagliafico.
The full-back would reportedly set West Ham back around €12m and would add some much-needed experience and depth to the Hammers squad, who are of course set to play Europa League football this term.
A deal, however, is not done yet, with De Telegraaf claiming that the player is yet to reach an agreement with West Ham on personal terms:
5 players Man United should target to join Paul Pogba & Bruno Fernandes in midfield
8 players who could still leave Chelsea this summer
