The match started perfectly for West Ham as Fornals' fourth minute corner kick went all the way in after only taking a touch off Alisson. There was a VAR check for a possible foul, but the goal stood to get the home side off to the perfect start.

Liverpool were slow to get going, but equalised five minutes before the break when Trent Alexander-Arnold turned in a perfect freekick.

West Ham finished the first half strong and had a couple more half chances, before keeping up their excellent counter-attacking football after the break, with Jarrod Bowen eventually sliding in a pass for Fornals to beat Alisson in the 67th minute.

Before long, it was 3-1 and West Ham were again dangerous from a set piece, with Kurt Zouma turning in a 74th minute corner at the far post.

But, Liverpool were never going to give up and they pushed for a comeback. Divock Origi knows something about epic comebacks and pulled one goal back out of almost nothing in the 83rd minute.

The West Ham fans feared that Liverpool would have one more chance and they did indeed, but Sadio Mane couldn't steer his header on target from a lofted Alexander-Arnold freekick.

That meant that West Ham held on, taking three points that have them dreaming of Champions League football.
