West Ham are gaining a striker who has a great killer instinct

Gianluca Scamacca has never shied away from moving abroad to fulfill the dream of his life and becoming a top player.

Scamacca is set to become Sassuolo's record sale, with the striker on the verge of sealing a £30.5m move to east London, though the Serie A side withhold a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

The new West Ham striker has lived a very special, almost fairytale story to date, having begun his career in the Netherlands with the PSV youth teams aged 18 following several snubs in Italy.

Scamacca fights for every ball and compared to West Ham's former Italian strikers - such as Simone Zaza, Alessandro Diamanti, Paolo Di Canio and Marco Borriello - he has a strong and robust physique.

Scamacca is not afraid of significant physical contact and is a centre forward who fights on every inch of the pitch.

At 195 centimeters tall he has a great killer in a penalty area instinct, revelling in every confrontation with opposing defenders like it was an outright fight.

In his career at Sassuolo, Scamacca played 36 matches, scoring 16 goals and at 23 years old he has time on his side and his age could therefore be one of the greatest positive of his career.

He has already shown that he is ready to become a Serie A starter. In the Premier League the football is different, more physical and faster and it is precisely on these areas that Scamacca will have to work hard.

His biggest flaw - despite his colossal frame - is that he does not defend the ball very well. This aspect will need to be improved and Sassulo coach Alessio Dionisi has tried to address it in the last 12 months.

Playing in Italy means learning to defend before attacking and even the strikers in Serie A must learn to occupy the spaces in midfield and be helpful to the whole team. However, what goes for him is that he is a fighter ready to win every physical duel.

But there was always clarity in where he wanted to end up. PSG were interested but they were always a second choice for him because he would have played little.

Meanwhile in the Premier League, the intensity is always high and he will immediately be the protagonist of David Moyes' attack.

Money for Scamacca is important but it is not the only key to his happiness. When he left Italy to play for the PSV he did it to become a better player and not a richer player.

West Ham, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, realised therefore the key to convince Scamacca to join was to simply present him a tactical strategy to put him at the heart of the team.

PSG's millions were never really been considered, because Scamacca wants to become like Harry Kane and not end up like Mauro Icardi.

Roberto Mancini has already reassured Scamacca that he will not lose his place in the Italian national team, and the former Man City boss will often be at the London Stadium or in England to follow the man destined to take the place of Ciro Immobile for the Azzurri.

Scamacca is a tattooed giant who has always gone about his career the same way regardless of the numerous challenges life has already thrown at him.

His family history is troubled and even today he does not have a good relationship with his father, instead seeing his mother and his maternal grandparents as his real family.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Gianluca Scamacca has never had a real bond with his father. His mother, named Cristiana, on the other hand, has always been a constant in the boy's life and even following her son's career in Holland.

As Gazzetta dello Sport reported, Scamacca's father was arrested in May last year after he bizarrely broke into Roma's training complex and reportedly destroyed 'four or five cars' while armed with an iron bar.

The reasons for this bizarre act are still unknown today but probably show why his son has preferred to focus on maintaining relationships with his mother and her side of the family.

The former Sassuolo striker has always made it clear that he has now distanced himself from the behaviour of his grandfather and father.

He said on social media: '[They were] violent and unspeakable episodes with which I must not be connected. I have lived for years with my mother and my sister and only them. They are my family'.

He now joins another in east London, where he will hope to take the next step in what has been a fascinating career to date.
