West Ham believe we can escape relegation, insists Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo highlighted West Ham's belief in clawing themselves away from the threat of relegation from the Premier League.

The Hammers ended their 10-game winless streak in the top flight with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday.

Callum Wilson, who is heavily linked with a move away from the club, was the hero, with his 93rd-minute strike snatching all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

West Ham remain 18th in the table, but are now within five points of 17th-place Nottingham Forest, who drew with Premier League leaders Arsenal.

"It means a lot for our fans, who were there cheering for us," Nuno said. "It's special to do it in the last moments of the game, because we have been on the other side of that many times this season.

"We started really well. The way we were organised, not allowing Spurs to go easy, always trying to press and recover. When we had the ball, we had good chances and combinations.

"We believe [we can escape relegation]. We have to worry about ourselves, work harder and commit more. I'm really proud of the way the players have been dealing with this situation. It's a tough one, but they are determined to turn it around."

West Ham ended their run without a victory in all competitions when they beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 in the FA Cup last weekend.

And Wilson, who climbed off the bench to give his side all three points, believes back-to-back wins give the Hammers a good platform to build on, as they look to preserve their top-flight status.

"It's massive today, the boys played fantastic," the striker added. "I think we deserved to be in front on the whole, especially with the chances we had in the first half. It wasn't to be [initially], but thankfully, we ended up getting the three points.

"You get put on to do a job, no matter if that's five minutes or 50. Throughout my career I've always tried to be professional, and I did that today.

"Any club winning games is important, whether it's the cup, or even just in small-sided games in training. Then, it extends onto the field. Getting back-to-back games is something to build on."
