West Ham fear that winger Andriy Yarmolenko could be out for six months with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
And that will be the second injury blow the Hammers have suffered in a week after high-profile signing Jack Wilshere suffered a setback in his recovery from ankle surgery.
Yarmolenko, however, is the more serious case.
The Ukrainian – signed in the summer for £18 million from Borussia Dortmund – was taken off on a stretcher during the 1-0 home defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.
He will have further tests on Sunday – but the indications are it is a similar injury to that of Laurent Koscielny which forced Arsenal’s central defender to miss the World Cup.
Koscielny was injured in May and has only just returned to training.
It looks likely he will not be able to play until next month at the earliest.
If it is confirmed that Yarmolenko has the same problem, it could mean he misses the rest of the season.
Wilshere has needed an injection last week after he felt soreness around the ankle on which he had surgery.
The former Arsenal midfielder had set a target of a comeback against Spurs in the Carabao Cup next week but that is now out of the question because his rehabilitation has been put back by two weeks.

shame, yarma was hit and miss so far but he was always a threat and id have backed him to hit double figures over the season if he stayed fit. Perhaps its time to finally let masuaku have the freedom of the wing though
Good shout, not sure why he's played as a full back. He did well last season further up the pitch, a good move by Moyes

A convalescent home you mean.

No dramas I'm sure there's another early to mid 30s player being dumped by a big club ready to come in on massive money to replace him. The West Ham Way.
I doubt any of today's snowflakes know who this man was

I feel for him, sounds like he's been troubled with injuries throughout his career...looked a good player this season, so hopefully he can make a full recovery and be back before the end of the season!

The club can't win a trick. Year in and year out the curse of injuries is always there. MInd you, it doesn't help when they persistently keep bringing players who are prone to injury.
